MALIBU, Calif. - The Pepperdine men's volleyball team needed just 80 minutes to pull off a 30-20, 30-23, 30-25 sweep of Pacific Friday night in Mountain Pacific Sports Federation (MPSF) play. The win improved the Waves 9-3 overall and in league play, while the Tigers drop to 4-9, 2-7 in conference action.
Pepperdine's Paul Carroll recorded a team-leading 11 kills with just one error on 21 swings for a .476 hitting percentage, bettering the team's .425 effort. John Parfitt was the lone other Wave to reach double-digits in kills with 10 as Jon Grobe chipped in with nine and Andy Hein added eight. Hein led the team in blocks with five and was followed by Tom Hulse's four as Pepperdine ended the night with a 10.0-6.5 advantage in total blocks.
Brian Adamson led all players with 18 kills in a losing effort for Pacific. Pekka Seppanen was second on the team with seven kills but hit minus .048, while the team hit just .157.
The match was just the first of a three-match road trip which will continue tomorrow night in Palo Alto, Calif., when Pepperdine takes on Stanford. First serve is scheduled for 7 p.m. (PT).
