MALIBU, Calif. - The Pepperdine Waves won their 11th straight Wednesday night with a 3-0 (30-16, 30-22, 30-22) victory over Johnson & Wales (Colo.) at Firestone Fieldhouse in Malibu, Calif.
Cody Duston led the Wildcats (4-6) with 11 kills on .476 hitting.
With its starters in for game one, Pepperdine hit at a .455 clip with 9.5 blocks team blocks while holding Johnson & Wales to minus .097 hitting. Greg Gaudino served five points of a 6-0 run that included two service aces to give the Waves a 7-3 lead. Pepperdine extended its lead to 14-6 after three straight blocks and never looked back in taking a 1-0 lead in the match.
Pepperdine opened game two with a 4-0 run and led wire-to-wire to take a 2-0 lead in the match. The Waves led comfortably throughout the set although they didn't pull away from Johnson & Wales until late.
Johnson & Wales hung with Pepperdine for much of game three until a Gaudino kill started the Waves on a 3-0 run, making the score 21-16. Pepperdine closed out the match with a 9-6 run.
Pepperdine will host an Alumni match on Saturday afternoon at 1 p.m. PT. The team will return to Mountain Pacific Sports Federation next week when it travels to Hawaii for a pair of matches against the Warriors on Thursday and Saturday.
