No. 5 Pepperdine Opens 2007 against Cal Baptist

MALIBU, Calif. - The Pepperdine men's volleyball team opens the 2007 season this week with a pair of home matches. First up for the No. 5-ranked Waves is Cal Baptist followed by the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation (MPSF) opener against No. 12 USC.

Pepperdine advanced to the MPSF Championship semi-finals where it was swept by eventual NCAA Champion UCLA.

The Waves return a solid nucleus in seniors John Parfitt, Jon Grobe, Tom Hulse and Tanner Sutherland. Also back this season is junior setter Jonathan Winder and sophomore opposite Paul Carroll.

Pepperdine is coached by Marv Dunphy who will begin his 24th season at the helm of the Pepperdine program which has compiled a 590-267 (.688) all-time record, including four 20+ win seasons in the past seven years.

Tuesday's match against Cal Baptist is scheduled for a 7 p.m. first serve as is Friday's match against the Trojans. Both matches will take place at Firestone Fieldhouse.
