Tradition Rich Programs Collide

Jan. 23, 2007

Malibu, Calif. - Arguably the two most storied men's volleyball programs in NCAA history will meet as the last two NCAA Champions face off when Pepperdine travels to UCLA for a Wednesday night match at Pauley Pavilion. First serve is scheduled for 7 p.m.

Pepperdine is led by sophomore Paul Carroll and senior John Parfitt and is 3-1 on the season (2-1 MPSF) after dropping a 3-2 decision to Long Beach State in its last contest.

In 2005, Pepperdine ended UCLA's season with a 3-2 victory in the NCAA Championship match. Last year, the Waves were 2-0 against its crosstown rival in the regular season, but were knocked out of the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation tournament in the semifinal round by the Bruins. UCLA went on to claim the national title.

Pepperdine's second match of the week will see it travel top-ranked UC Irvine on Saturday for a 7 p.m. start. The Waves and Anteaters split the season series in 2006.
