Andy Hein Tabbed AVCA National Player of the Week

MALIBU, Calif. - Andy Hein, a 6-10 junior middle blocker for second-ranked Pepperdine University (9-1, 9-1 MPSF), has been chosen the Sports Imports/AVCA Division I-II Men's National Player of the Week. Hein sparked the Waves to three conference victories last week in as many matches. He averaged 3.96 points, 2.75 kills, 1.33 blocks and 0.50 digs per game while hitting a robust .721. Hein tallied 15 kills, five blocks, three digs and an ace while hitting .789 against seventh-ranked UC Santa Barbara on Feb. 8. He hit .750 with 10 kills, six blocks, three digs and an ace in a four-game victory versus sixth-ranked BYU on Feb. 11. In a rematch with BYU on Feb. 12, Hein contributed eight kills, three aces, five blocks and a .583 attack percentage in a three-game victory. He improved his season averages to 3.58 points, 2.56 kills, 1.31 blocks, 0.36 digs and 0.28 aces per game. Hein also moved his season-long hitting percentage to .595. A Waves student-athlete has earned the national honor 12 times. The Pepperdine head coach is Marv Dunphy.
