MALIBU, Calif. -
The Pepperdine men's volleyball team returns to Firestone Fieldhouse this week for a pair of pivotal Mountain Pacific Sports Federation (MPSF) matches when it hosts No. 4 UCLA on Thursday night and No. 2 UC Irvine Saturday night. Both matches are slated for 7 p.m. PDT first serves.
Pepperdine has won 16 straight matches, one shy of tying the single-season school record set in 2002. With a 15-1 conference record (19-1 overall), the Waves control their own destiny in the conference race but Irvine is not far back at 14-3 in MPSF play. The team with the best league record during the regular season earns the right to host the conference semifinal and championship tournament rounds with an automatic berth to the NCAA Championship on the line.
The Waves had to rally from a 2-1 deficit and fought off a Bruins' match point in the two team's first meeting of the season back on Jan. 24 at Pauley Pavilion. Three nights later, Pepperdine handed then-top-ranked UC Irvine its first loss of the season, 3-0.
Both matches will be streamed live over the internet at www.PepperdineSports.com as well as utilize College Sports Television's Gametracker.
