May 1, 2007

COLUMBUS, Ohio - The top-seeded Pepperdine Waves are making their 14th NCAA Championship appearance this week as they are set to face the fourth-seeded Indiana University Purdue University Fort Wayne Mastodons in the first of two NCAA National Collegiate Men's Volleyball semifinal matches on Thursday at 2 p.m. (PDT) in St. John Arena.

UC Irvine will face Penn State in the second semifinal match.

The Waves enter the championships with a 26-2 overall record as the at-large team, while IPFW won the Midwest Intercollegiate Volleyball Association (MIVA) tournament title, 3-0, over Ohio State last weekend.

Pepperdine University picked up its first NCAA Division I national title in 1978 when the men's volleyball team defeated UCLA, 3-2, at the same site as this year's championships.

This season marks the Waves' fifth trip to the championships since 2000. During that time, Pepperdine is 3-3 with one national title. Overall, Pepperdine is 16-8 with five titles.

Thursday's match will air live on ESPN2 with Beth Mowins and Mike Dodd calling the action.
