Pepperdine Alumni Showcase Talents at Manhattan Beach Open

MALIBU, Calif. - Eight former Pepperdine volleyball players will compete at this weekend's Manhattan Beach Open as the AVP Tour stops in Southern California for the final time during the 2005 season.

Dain Blanton enters the tournament as the men's No. 8 seed, while current assistant men's volleyball coach and 2002 graduate Scott Wong is the ninth seed. Sean Rooney secured the No. 17 seed, with Chip McCaw and John Mayer rounding out the male entrants at the 22nd seed and No.1-ranked qualifier, respectively.

Three former Pepperdine women have qualified for the main draw which opens play Friday, with Jennifer Meredith earning the No. 8 seed. Ann Windes enters the weekend as the No. 18 seed and Stacy Rouwenhorst played her way through Thursday's qualifier bracket and into the main draw.

All told, Pepperdine alumni have recorded over $56,000 in winnings during the 2005 season which comes to an end Oct. 2 with the Honolulu Best of Beach tournament.
