The 24th-ranked Loyola Marymount women's volleyball team started the season with a 3-1 win over Oral Roberts at the PowerBar Invitational in Boulder, CO

The 24th-ranked Loyola Marymount women's volleyball team started the season with a 3-1 win over Oral Roberts at the PowerBar Invitational in Boulder, CO. The Lions were led by junior Kristen Gallup who recorded a game-high 15 kills and 17 digs.

LMU and Oral Roberts split the first two games with the Lions taking game one 30-21 and the Golden Eagles taking game two 30-20. Fortunately for LMU, it was able to get back on track as it recorded wins in games three and four, 31-29 and 30-24, respectively.

Also hitting the double-digit kills mark along with Gallup was senior Eleftheria Koukou (12 kills) and sophomore Tiana Newsome (11 kills). Newsome hit an incredible .450 on the night only committing two errors on 20 attacks. Her four blocks also led the squad defensively.

With the win the Lions are now 1-0 on the season. LMU returns to action Saturday, Sept. 1 for Day 2 of the PowerBar Invitational. The Lions will match up against the host Colorado Buffaloes at 8 p.m. mountain time.
