Gonzaga University dropped two matches on Saturday to finish fourth at the 2001 Cougar Challenge in Pullman. Gonzaga (1-3) gave Washington State (3-0) all it could handle in the opening match losing in three games, 30-19, 30-23, 37-35. The Zags would face Bradley (2-2) in their final match of the tournament losing the third place game to the Braves in four games, 26-30, 30-28, 30-26, 30-27. Gonzaga returns to action on Tuesday at the University of Montana.

Washington State had to rally from six points down in the final game Saturday morning as the host Cougars held off Gonzaga at the Cougar Classic in Pullman. Gonzaga (1-2) had three players finish the contest with double-digit kills but could not snap the teams 11-match losing streak to Washington State (3-0).

Washington State had to charge back from seven points down in the final contest as the teams played extra time in a 37-35 WSU victory. Abby Cullen led an inspired Zags effort in the final game knocking home eight of her 12 kills in the final game as Gonzaga took a 29-23 lead. Holly Harris guided the Cougars back into the game with three kills as WSU claimed a 30-29 advantage. The teams traded points with the Zags reaching game point on two occasions before Boutre pushed the Cougars on to victory.

Kozen led all players with 15 kills while Zuzana Tumova finished with 11 kills for the Zags.

Bradley 3 Gonzaga 1

Zuzana Tumova recorded 17 kills Saturday afternoon but it was not enough as Gonzaga University fell to Bradley University in the final game of the 2001 Cougar Challenge in Pullman. Bradley (2-2) claimed third place in the tournament defeating Gonzaga (1-3) in four games, 26-30, 30-28, 30-26, 30-27.

Christina Davis and Natasha Kozen rounded out the Zags with double-digit kills as both players finished with 12. Benzing led all players in the match with 22 kills while Ann Franklin added 14.
