In a week where the WCC boasted four tournament MVP?s and 17 all-tournament performers, San Francisco?s Brittanie Budinger and Saint Mary?s Jill Pamele played a key part in lifting their programs to victory. Budinger averaged 3.69 kills, 3.00 digs and 0.85 blocks for a resurgent USF club. The Encinitas, CA native posted 18 kills and established career-highs with 21 digs against Wichita State. Budinger shared the team lead with 19 kills against the #19 Cougars and added 14 digs and five blocks (three solo). For her efforts, Budinger was named tournament MVP. Parmele helped the Gaels defeat No. 23-ranked Texas, Northeastern and CS Northridge to take first place in the Fremont Investment & Loan Invitational. The senior outside hitter averaged 4.80 kill per game, 2.7 digs per game and one block per contest in 10 games over the weekend. Her 23 kills and seven digs against CSUN was a big boost for Gaels in the final match to give SMC its second best start since 1993.
