The 24th-ranked Santa Clara Broncos handed Bay Area rival San Jose State its first loss of the season Tuesday at the Event Center. Game scores were 30-27, 30-26, 30-28.

Despite being outhit (.213 to .208) and outblocked (8-2), the Broncos earned the victory to move to 4-1 on the year. SJSU falls to 3-1.

Senior Jami Bari and sophomore Becky Potter led an even Bronco attack with 13 kills each. Bari added a double-double with a strong defensive effort, adding 12 digs, while fellow senior Merrin Thompson led all defenders with 16 digs.

The Spartans were led by Stephanie Pascucci who posted 13 kills.

The Broncos return to the mission campus and will host the SCU Invitational, presented by the Fremont Marriott, to open the home schedule. No. 13 UC Santa Barbara, North Carolina and Creighton will take part in the action, starting at 10 a.m. on Saturday at the Leavey Center.
