Sep. 6-WCC Volleyball Recaps - 9/6lt;brgt; lt;Pgt;13;lt;bgt;Saint Mary's 3, Grambling State 0lt;/bgt;lt;brgt; The Saint Mary's women's volleyball defeated Grambling State by the final score of 3-0 in its second match of the 003 TCU Molten Invitational. Game scores of the Gaels victory over the Tigers were 30-19, 30-19, 30-4. With the victory Saint Mary's improved its overall record to 11-4 on the season while Grambling State fell to 7-1. Saint Mary's outplayed the Tigers as they dominated the offensive attack for the match. Saint Mary's 3 kills were far superior to Grambling State's total of 33.The Gaels .346 attacking percentage also bettered the Tigers .16. Leading the attack for the Gaels was Jill Parmele. The Acampo, CA native totaled 14 kills and two digs against the Tigers. Also contributing for Saint Mary's was Kaui Salzman. The sophomore totaled 1 kills, four digs, and three aces for the match. lt;pgt; lt;Pgt;13;lt;bgt;Saint Mary's 3, St. Francis 0lt;/bgt;lt;brgt; The Saint Mary's women's volleyball team won it opening match of the 003 TCU Molten Invitational against the St. Francis Red Flash by a final score of 3-0. Game scores of the Gaels win over the Red Flash were 30-1, 30-13, and 30-4. With the victory the Gaels toped their win total from last season and now stand at 10-4. St. Francis fell to 3-6 on the season. In a match that only took 1:18 to complete, the Gaels dominated their counterparts in almost every aspect of play. Saint Mary's recorded more kills, digs, block assists, assists and aces for the match then St. Francis. Saint Mary's offense was fueled by a .78 attacking percentage to that of St. Francis' .167. Leading the way for Saint Mary's was Kaui Salzman. The sophomore totaled six kills, four digs, and two block assists. The Toreros remain undefeated at home this season and face Dayton Saturday at 7pm as the 003 USD Tournament continues. Friday's opening act stole the show as No. 4 Loyola Marymount and Dayton battled for over two and half hours before LMU prevailed in five games. lt;brgt; lt;Pgt;13;Individual game scores for LMU-Dayton went (8-30, 30-7, 30-7, 6-30, 17-1). San Diego was (30-19, 30-6, 30-1) winners over Fairfield. San Diego (10-3) freshman Christie Dawson (Apple Valley, CA) killed 13 and sophomore Lindsey Sherburne (Saratoga, CA) had another stellar outing passing out 48 assists. Sherburne entered the week fifth among NCAA Division I players assists per game (14.03). lt;brgt; lt;Pgt;13;San Diego (10-3) received a match-high 14 kills from junior Kristen Hurst. As a team the Toreros hit .310 as Fairfield registered a .170 team attack percentage. USD will take on Dayton (10-) Saturday night at 7pm.
