The Lions (4-3 overall/0-0 WCC) were led by freshman Dina DeBernardi who hit a team-best clip of .257 on the night. DeBernardi finished the evening with 13 kills, 4 errors and 35 attacks. Freshman Jacene Dimson's defense kept the Lions going all night long. Dimson came up with critical digs to keep LMU in the game, she would end the night with 10.
Junior Kristen Gallup and sophomore Kealani Kimball recorded double-doubles for the Lions. Gallup picked up 18 kills and 13 digs while Kimball collected 12 kills and 14 digs.
In the match, the Lions dropped Game 1, 30-21, and seemed to be struggling offensively. LMU was held to a .093 hitting percentage in the first game while ASU hit .200 as a team. After a hot start by the Sun Devils in Game 2, LMU came back to win a 38-36 thriller and tie the match at one game apiece. The Lions battled through next two games but could not put them away. ASU went on to win games three and four, 30-28 and 30-25, respectively. The Sun Devils improve to 4-3 on the year.
LMU Volleyball Classic All-Tournament selections went to Anna Reines (New Mexico), Melissa Brewer (Indiana), DeBernardi (LMU), Oehlman (LMU), Jodi Smith (ASU) and the 2001 LMU Volleyball Classic MVP award went to Julia Leddy (ASU).
The Lions enjoy some much needed time off before going on the road again. LMU will face BYU on Thursday, Sept. 13 at 7 p.m. That match will take place on neutral ground at the University of Hawaii.
