Sep 17-In a total team effort that saw four Waves hit in double digits, the No. 7 Pepperdine women's volleyball team (9-2) cruised in for an easy victory over the No. 13 UC Santa Barbara Gauchos (4-4) at Firestone Fieldhouse on Wednesday night. The scores were 30-24, 30-21, and 30-24.

The Waves improve to 9-2 on the season after winning their seventh consecutive match. Meanwhile, UC Santa Barbara evens out at 4-4.

"In my opinion, tonight was probably the biggest match for us that we've played all season," said head coach, Nina Matthies, who recorded her 393rd career win tonight. "Santa Barbara is a very respectable team and it feels great to be sitting at 9-2 heading into the Friday match up against Harvard. I am very proud of my team."

Senior Katie Wilkins led both teams with 14 kills, while sophomore Katy Daly sparked the Waves with a double-double performance totaling 13 kills and 13 digs. Sophomore Breegan Mulligan powered down a respectable 10 kills and seven digs, and sophomore libero Christina Hinds scooped up a game-high 14 digs.

Meanwhile, Freshman Sophia Milo came up big for the Waves once again, after accounting for 10 kills, .333 hitting percentage, one block solo and a career-high six block assists. Senior captain Lyndsey Hache' also added to the mix seven kills and a .267 hitting percentage. Sophomore setter Melissa "Missy" Mehlhorn assisted her squad with 52 solid sets.

For the Gaunchos, Erica Menzel registered 12 kills and Emily Hendrickson added 11 digs.

The Waves out-hit the opponent 55 to 29 and they recorded a .209 hitting percentage versus the Gauchos .052.

Next up for Pepperdine is a Friday, Sept. 19, match-up between the Waves and Harvard at 7 p.m. at Firestone Fieldhouse.
