The Saint Mary??s women??s volleyball team (2-4) suffered a 3-1 loss to the Sacramento State Hornets (6-3) on Tuesday night in front of 168 fans at McKeon Pavilion. Saint Mary??s jumped out to a 1-0 lead with a 30-20 victory in game one, but the Hornets responded by winning the next three games by scores of 30-26, 30-22, and 30-26.

With the Hornet victory, Sacramento State has won its last three matches while the Gaels have lost two straight.

Statistically the match was evenly played as Saint Mary??s posted a .206 hitting percentage to Sacramento State??s .209. Saint Mary??s tallied 91 digs to the Hornets 87 and the Gaels served up one more ace than CSUS, 6-to-5. The Gaels were also stronger at the net, recording 9.5 blocks to the four by Sacramento.

Pacing the Gaels was senior outside hitter Meagan Smith who tallied 19 kills, with a .356 hitting percentage, and a match-high 26 digs. Three other Gaels recorded double-doubles. Rachel Avilla tallied 18 kills and 10 digs, Lindsay Bogason recorded 10 kills and 14 digs and Brooke Lowry posted her fifth double-double of the season with a match-high 49 assists and 11 digs.

Leading the way for the Hornets was setter Lisa Beauchene. Beauchene notched a triple-double with 13 kills, 19 digs and 46 assists. She also had a match-high .400 hitting percentage. Tasman Dwyer??s 20 kills led all players and Jayme Wright recorded double digits in kills and digs with 15 and 19, respectively.

Saint Mary??s will hit the road for its next two matches. First, the Gaels will play Colorado State on Friday, September 21 at 6:00 p.m., then they will meet up with Wyoming on Saturday, September 22, also at 6:00 p.m.
