Fueled by a 17-kill performance by senior outside hitter Bridget DeChant, the University of Portland women's volleyball team defeated cross-town rival rival Portland State 30-22, 30-27, 23-30 and 32-30, Tuesday night at the Stott Center. The Pilots improved to 3-5 on the season while the Vikings dropped to 4-3.

The match looked like it would into a fifth game as the Vikings were up one in the fourth game with a chance for game point, but the Pilots battled back to close out the victory.

Sophomore middle blocker and senior outside hitter Bridget Beschen had 13 kills apiece for Portland. Beschen also had 14 digs in the match. Richell Wilson led the Vikings with 18 kills in 54 attack attempts. Portland will open West Coast conference play this Friday and Saturday when it host Loyola Marymount and Pepperdine.
