Loyola Marymount spoiled Portland's 2001 home opener Friday, beating the Pilots 3-0 in the West Coast Conference opener for both schools. The Lions won 30-25, 30-25, 30-23, running their overall record to 6-4. Portland dropped to 3-6 with the loss.

Kristin Gallup led LMU with 12 kills and 12 digs, while Dina DeBernardi and Kealani Kimball each added 12 kills to the Lion attack. LMU hit .398 in the match, including .463 in the first game.

Nicole Oehlman nearly had a triple-double with seven kills, 32 assists and nine digs.

Heather Denison topped Portland with 11 kills, while Anna Abatzoglou added 10 kills. Kuulei Kamanao had 10 digs for the Pilots, and Julie Allen also narrowly missed a triple-double with seven kills, 15 asssits and nine digs.

The Pilots committed 16 attack errors in 128 attempts against 48 kills, and mustered just two teams blocks (one solo/two assist). LMU had one solo block and 12 assists, limiting Portland to .250 hitting.
