Katie Wilkins had a match-high 16 kills Friday night as No. 13 Pepperdine (5-2, 1-0 WCC) opened West Coast Conference play with a three-game victory over host Gonzaga (3-8, 0-1 WCC) at Martin Centre. Pepperdine won the match 30-25, 30-20 and 30-27.

In the opening game Pepperdine connected for a .341 hitting percentage as the Waves moved out to a slight 13-11 advantage midway through the game. A combination of two kills and two blocks by Abby Cullen brought Gonzaga back into the contest at 22-22. Pepperdine turned to Wilkins and Brie Harris to combine on a kill and Harris service ace to take the opening game.

Pepperdine continued its hot hitting in the second game as the Waves again registered a .341 hitting percentage. Stacy Rouwenhorst came up big in the second game for the Waves collecting five of her 12 kills in the match. The Waves took a 21-15 lead and never looked back.

In the final game, Pepperdine again finished hot with a .326 attack percentage. Harris and Wilkins paced the Pepperdine attack as the Waves limited Gonzaga to a .175 attack percentage. Zuzana Tumova kept the Zags in the contest with four kills but a late Zags rally fell short.

Cullen led the Zags with 12 kills while Christina Davis finished with 10. Wilkins led all players with 16 kills while Harris had 13 and Rouwenhorst 12 kills for the Waves. Pepperdine out hit Gonzaga 61 to 38 in the kills department.

Gonzaga hosts Loyola Marymount in WCC action on Saturday night. Start time is 7 p.m. at Martin Centre. Pepperdine travels to Portland for WCC action.
