WCC Volleyball Player of the Month

Katie Wilkins, Pepperdine - Senior, Outside Hitter
Wilkins kept the 10-2 Pepperdine Waves ranked No. 5 and 6 in the country through the month of September by leading her team in aces, kills, and points. She earned West Coast Conference Player of the Week honors on September 16 after a week that included a Pepperdine 3-1 win at Pacific on CSTV. A two-time All-American, Wilkins was named MVP in two tournaments this month, the 2003 Roger Beasley Honda Premier and the 2003 Nike Invitational. In addition to her MVP honors, the senior outside hitter garnered all-tournament honors at the Four Points Sheraton Pepperdine Classic.

Wilkins is first in the West Coast Conference in kills per game and is ranked No. 15 in the nation in that category (5.47 kpg). In the West Coast Conference, Wilkins leads the league in points (6.68), kills (5.47), and service aces (0.65) per game, while playing against some of the toughest competition in the country. The Waves have faced six top-25 teams this season.

Wilkins has posted some impressive individual performances this season as well. Her 32 kills against Pacific (in four games) is a WCC season-high, while her six service aces against Penn on September 13 puts her second on the season-high list in the WCC. Wilkins captured the fourth spot on Pepperdine?s career kills list last month. She now has 1,304 kills in her four-year career and needs 199 kills the rest of the season to jump into the top-10 on the WCC career kills list.
