Santa Clara - The #15 Santa Clara University women's volleyball team opened up its West Coast Conference season with a convincing 3-0 win over San Diego in front of 987 fans inside the Leavey Center.

The Broncos swept the Toreros behind a .346 team hitting percentage, led by freshman Cassie Perret's .609 mark which included 14 kills on 23 attacks with no errors. Becky Potter had another stellar match, posting match-high 19 kills to go along with 12 digs.

"This is a good win for us," said head coach Jon Wallace. "Not only does this set the tone for the conference season, but I think we saw a glimpse tonight of how well we can actually play."

San Diego posted some good numbers as well, but just could not hold on to any momentum they built during the match. The Toreros held a 17-10 lead in the third game but saw the Broncos roar back to tie the score at 20 and eventually win the final game by a four point margin.

Devon Forster led San Diego on the evening with her 11 kills and 10 digs, while Noel Frohman added 12 kills and nine digs on the evening.

Santa Clara continues WCC action tomorrow evening as it welcomes Bay Area rival Saint Mary's to the Leavey Center for a 7 p.m. match.
