October 11-The #14 Santa Clara Broncos received a scare from the Gonzaga Bulldogs but were able to pull out a 3-1 win, while Portland downed San Francisco 3-1

#14 Santa Clara 3, Gonzaga 1
The 14th-ranked Santa Clara University women's volleyball team survived a big scare in Spokane, Wash., Friday night; coming away with a hard fought 3-1 victory over Gonzaga in the Martin Centre.

The Broncos (14-2, 3-0 WCC) looked like they would cruise to their third straight West Coast Conference win after winning games one and two by scores of 30-21 and 30-15, but the Bulldogs (2-14, 0-3 WCC) came up huge in game three, winning by a 30-21 margin.

Becky Potter led the Santa Clara attack with 17 kills despite sitting out the third game. Megan Johnston finished the match with 13 kills while freshmen Cassie Perret and Alyssa Lantz rounded out the Broncos in double-digit kills with 12 and 11, respectively. Gonzaga was led by Christina Davis with 17 kills and 15 digs. Natasha Kozen finished with nine blocks for GU and Missy Perry added three service aces.

Portland 3, USF 1
The University of Portland women's volleyball team defeated the San Francisco Lady Dons, 3-1 (30-26, 24-30, 30-23, 30-22) on Fri., Oct. 11 at the Chiles Center in Portland, OR. Portland improves to 12-6 overall, 1-2 in the WCC. San Francisco drops to 4-15 overall, 0-3 in WCC play.

On the night, freshman Sara Vercruyssen racked up a career-high 21 kills for a .245 hitting percentage and seven digs. Lauren Karpstein tallied 14 kills and hit for .290, along with 11 digs and a career-high four block assists. Junior Heather Denison notched 10 kills for a .226 hitting percentage and six total blocks. Sheena Surplus posted 46 assists and 16 digs, while Carlie Price added 16 digs. As a team Portland posted a .212 hitting percentage and 14.0 total team blocks.

San Francisco??s Brittanie Budinger tallied 20 kills and 16 digs. Teammate Ashley Bello and Liz Macausland combined for 21 kills, while Caroline Skacel and Francesca Pomilia each totaled 12 digs in the match. Setter Kristina Bognar posted 44 assists and 10 digs. The Lady Dons hit for .139 and added 9.0 total team blocks in the match.

UC Irvine 3, Saint Mary's 0
The Saint Mary's women's volleyball team fell to 5-9 with a 33-35, 12-30, 21-30 loss to UC Irvine (11-6) in a non-conference match tonight in Crawford Hall.

Leading the Gaels was Lindsey Bogason with 14 kills and five digs. Jill Parmele hit .455 with 11 kills and only one error in 22 attempts. Brooke Lowry assisted 29 kills in the match. Kaui Salzman chipped in with 11 digs.

The Gaels return to action on Saturday, October 12 when they play San Diego in Jenny Craig Pavilion at 7:00 p.m.
