Oct. 12--Portland extended San Diego to four games Friday, but the Toreros had enough in the tank to beat the Pilots 3-1 (30-24, 30-16, 25-30, 34-32). The Pilots dropped to 3-10 overall, 0-5 in West Coast Conference play, while San Diego improved to 12-3/4-0.

After winning game three 30-25 to force a fourth game, Portland played San Diego virtually even in the fourth game, eventually taking a 25-23 lead. The Toreros went on a 6-1 run, but a Heather Denison kill, a San Diego error and Carlie Price ace tied the match at 29-29.

Lindsey Lampert then gave USD a 30-29 lead, but Bridget DeChant spoiled San Diego?s match point with a kill to even the score. The teams traded points until 32-32, when San Diego closed out the match with two points.

Devon Forster led USD with 16 kills, while Noel Frohman had 13 kills and 16 digs. Bridget DeChant and Bridget Beschen topped Portland with 13 kills each, while Denison added 11.

San Diego rallied from a 22-21 deficit in game one to win 30-24, then sped out to an 18-9 lead in game two on the way to a 30-16 win.

In game three, neither team led by more than three points until the Pilots took a 23-19 lead. Still, the Pilots had to fight off the Toreros before winning 30-25.
