The teams traded momentum in the opening two games with each team winning by two points with the scored tied at 28-28 in each game before the winning team would push across the final two points. Rachel Avilla led the Gaels early attack while Christina Davis and Jamie VanMeetren paced the Zags.
Saint Mary's pulled away in game three winning the contest 30-21 and heading into game four with the momentum. VanMeetren helped the Zags run off a a 5-0 late charge as the Zags held off Saint Mary's 30-28 in game four. VanMeetren would finish with 16 kills and 14 digs, making four digs in the fourth game.
Gonzaga opened the final game with a 8-1 run as Davis connected for three kills and Shannon O'Connor came off the bench to add two kills. Saint Mary's would close the gap to 13-8 as Meg Hauser had two kills during a late SMC run. Katerina Chroustovska would help the Zags collect the final two points as the Zags won their second WCC match of the season.
Davis led all players with 18 kills while Chroustovska finished with 17 digs. Avilla led the Gaels with 15 kills while Lindsay Hardy had a team-high 17 digs. Gonzaga hosts San Diego on Saturday night at 7 p.m. while Saint Mary's travels to Portland for WCC action.
