Nov. 26 -- Three West Coast Conference volleyball teams received invitations to the 2001 NCAA Volleyball Championships today. Pepperdine, ranked No. 7 in the tournament, will travel to North Carolina to square off against Georgia Southern. Santa Clara will face Bay Area rival San Jose State at Stanford; and San Diego will play UC Santa Barbara at Long Beach State.

The Waves compiled a 21-3 overall record this year and claimed the WCC's automatic bid with their eight WCC title. This marks the fifth straight year Pepperdine has gone to the NCAA tournament, 12th overall. The Eagles of Georgia Southern posted a 22-11 overall record and are 14-6 in the Southern Conference.

Santa Clara ended the 2001 regular season at 19-9 overall and earned second place in the WCC. The Broncos head to the post season for the fourth straight year, sixth overall. The Spartans of San Jose were 24-7 overall and 9-4 in the WAC, also placing second in their conference. Santa Clara defeated San Jose State in three games earlier this year.

Making their sixth appearance in the NCAA tournament, the San Diego Toreros posted a 21-8 overall record, 10-4 in the WCC; while the Gauchos of Santa Barbara finished at 17-13 overall, 14-4 in Big West competition.
