Dec. 7-Pepperdine's hopes of advancing past the Sweet 16 at the NCAA Championships were dashed on Friday when No. 7 ranked Florida defeated the No. 8 Waves by scores of 30-28, 30-25, 30-16 at the Nebraska Coliseum in Lincoln, Nebraska.

Florida, 28-1, will play the winner of the Colorado State-Nebraska match for the right to advance to the Final Four scheduled for next weekend in San Diego.

Pepperdine completed the 2001 campaign with a 23-4 mark, as the Waves had a 13-match winning streak snapped by the Gators who have now won 26 straight matches.

The Waves had all of the early momentum, building what looked to be an insurmountable 27-20 lead in the first game. However, Florida stormed back to score 10 of the next 11 points to claim the all-important first game and put Pepperdine on its heels.

Outside hitter Aury Cruz led Florida with a match-high totals of 22 kills and 19 digs as the Gators notched a .224 team attack mark and outblocked the Waves by a commanding 26-8 margin.

Junior middle blocker Stacy Rouwenhorst led Pepperdine with 12 kills as the Waves managed a poor .096 team hitting percentage.
