MALIBU, Calif. - Five different Waves scored in double figures led by Jasmane Clarendon and Jessica Ross' 11 but it was not enough as Pepperdine fell to the San Francisco Dons 77-65 Saturday afternoon in West Coast Conference (WCC) action.
San Francisco (7-11, 1-2 WCC) was led by Heidi Heintz and Dominique Carter's 17 points. Shay Rollins had 16 and Nikie Warren added 10 for the Dons who have won the last two meetings in the series.
San Francisco got an early jump on Pepperdine and led 11-2. But the Waves responded with a 9-0 run to tie the game. The Dons momentarily regained the lead only to see Pepperdine use an 8-0 run to take its first lead of the day.
One of three trey's by Ross the visitors with their largest lead of the game 29-18. Pepperdine would hold a 29-20 advantage at the half.
The Dons opened the second half on a 10-1 run to tie the game at 30-all. Clarendon scored the next seven Pepperdine points as the Waves went up by three 37-34. An Ayim layup with 14:53 put Pepperdine up by six.
Just over two minutes later San Francisco had tied the game at 41-41 and took its first lead of the second stanza 44-43. It was all Dons over the final 10 minutes of the game as the home team went on to record the 17-point victory.
Pepperdine will return to the hardwood next weekend when it travels to cross-town rival Loyola Marymount for a men-women doubleheader in Los Angeles. Tip off is scheduled for 4:30 p.m. PT on Saturday. The game will air live on CSTV.
