MALIBU, Calif. - The Pepperdine Waves fell to the Loyola Marymount Lions 63-52 on Senior Night at Firestone Fieldhouse in West Coast Conference (WCC) action Saturday evening.
Loyola Marymount (15-11, 7-5 WCC) was paced by Amanda Patton's 15 points, while three other Lions scored in the double digits, including Ashlee Dunlap who added 11 points and pulled down a game-leading 14 rebounds.
With the victory, the Loins complete the season-sweep over the Waves for the first time since the 2003-04 season.
Leading 51-45 with 8:50 to play, Loyola Marymount put the game out of reach with an 8-0 run that included five points by Cassady Moore.
Pepperdine answered with a 5-0 run to cut the deficit back down to single digits with just over one minute to play but with Loyola Marymount in the double bonus, the Lions iced the game from the free throw stripe.
Pepperdine cut a six-point halftime deficit down to three in the opening minutes of the second half but was never able to complete the comeback.
Nakeya Isabell's trey at the 15:57 mark of the first half gave Pepperdine its first lead of the game 7-5. Loyola Marymount answered by outscoring the Waves 10-3 over the next three minutes and led 15-10 with 12:45 on the clock.
With 1:49 remaining in the half, Amanda DeCoud gave LMU its largest lead of the first half 37-25. Pepperdine closed out the half with a 6-0 run to trail 37-31 after the opening 20 minutes.
Pepperdine will close out the regular season next weekend on the road as it travels to Saint Mary's and Santa Clara. Thursday's game against the Gaels is slated for a 7 p.m. PT tip, while Saturday's game is slated for a 2 p.m. start.
