Salt Lake City, UT - The Gaels were unable to stop the Utah Utes on the offensive end, as they fell 85-59 Wednesday night. The loss drops Saint Mary's to 6-7 on the year, while Utah improves to 8-3. Lauren Shaughnessy tabbed a team-high in points and rebounds, with 16 and five respectively.
The Utes went on a 7-0 run to start the game, and never lost the lead as they defeated the Gaels 85-59. The Gaels could not stop the Utes from scoring, as they shot 47.2 percent from the field (34-of-72), and 31.6 percent from long range (6-of-19).
Lauren Shaughnessy put together an all-around game for the Gaels, scoring 16 points and pulling down five rebounds. The senior guard also picked up two blocks, one assist, and one steal in the ball game. Louella Tomlinson was the only other Gael to reach double-digits in points, recording 10 points, four rebounds, three blocks, and two steals. In her second game back after injury, Kira Kojola chipped in seven points and three assists for the Gaels.
Utah was led by Morgan Warburton, tallying a game-high 20 points. Kalee Whipple was named the "Player of the Game," as she tabbed a double-double with 18 points and 11 rebounds.
The Gaels return to action against Utah State on Saturday, December 22 at 1:00 PM MT.
