Dec. 22, 2007

Logan, UT - The Gaels were unable to pick-up a win on the road, as they fell to Utah State 81-60 Saturday afternoon. Saint Mary's was unable to stop the Aggies offense, as they recorded a 44.9 shooting percentage from the field. Freshman Louella Tomlinson led all players with a double-double and career-high 26 points and 13 rebounds. The Australian native shot 12-of-25 from the field.

The Aggies ran out to a 15-6 lead to start the first half, but senior Serena Benavente would cut the deficit to six on a three pointer at the 11:04 mark. Utah State responded with back-to-back jumpers by Shipley and Snelgro, and would maintain the lead throughout the rest of the half. Each time the Gaels seemed to find an offensive rhythm the Aggies would react with an offensive play of their own. After the first half the Gaels were shooting a 35.5 percent from the floor, while Utah State posted a 45.5 percent mark.

At half time the Gaels were led by Benavente with 11 points, shooting 4-of-8 from the field, including 2-of-3 from beyond the arc. In ten minutes of action Tomlinson chipped in nine points for the Gaels in the first half, while also tallying six rebounds and two blocks.

Once again the Aggies would start the game hot on the offensive end, beginning the second half with an 11-6 run. A media timeout with the score at 49-33 would give the Gaels motivation, as Saint Mary's came out of the timeout to record an 11-4 run and cut the Aggies' lead to nine points. Unfortunately Utah State would not stay silent, responding with a 15-2 run, and securing the lead for the remainder of the game.

Tomlinson's second half performance of 17 points and seven rebounds led the Aussie to her career-highs, finishing the game with 26 points and 13 rebounds. Benavente totaled 11 points and four rebounds in the Gaels loss, while Lauren Shaughnessy finished with eight points, six rebounds, and two assists.

Utah State ran a well balanced offense, with four players recording double-digits in points. Lindsey Shipley led the way for the Aggies, posting 19 points. Taylor Richards totaled 17 points in Utah State's win, while Danyelle Snelgro and Alice Coddington pitched in 11 points apiece.

The Gaels will return to action in McKeon Pavilion on December 29 and 30. Saint Mary's will first face CS Fullerton on December 29 at 2:05 PM and then play Northern Colorado at 2:05 PM on December 30.
