SAN BRUNO, Calif. – The West Coast Conference has named its Women’s Basketball Player of the Week for January 6, 2014.
WEST COAST CONFERENCE PLAYER OF THE WEEK – BRIA RICHARDSON, JR., G, PEPPERDINE
Junior guard Bria Richardson turned in one of the top offensive days in West Coast Conference history en route to WCC Player of the Week honors. Richardson scored 44 points in a 100-93 overtime victory against Santa Clara on Thursday in the second-highest tally in league history
Richardson went 14-for-24 from the field in Pepperdine’s win against the Broncos, going 3-for-3 from 3-point territory and hitting 13-of-16 free throws in what was the second highest single game scoring total in Pepperdine program history. Portland All-American Martha Sheldon (1987-92) owns the overall single-game record with a 45-point outburst against Gonzaga (1/29/92). It was the first 40-point night by a WCC student-athlete since San Diego’s Michelle Augustovo scored 42 against Clemson (12/11/05) and only the fifth overall.
Richardson followed her career day with a 12-point, seven-rebound and six-assist game against San Francisco. In two games, Richardson averaged 28.0 points, shot 51.4% from the field – including 4-of-7 from beyond the arc – and averaged 6.0 rebounds, 4.5 steals and 3.5 assists.
