Saint Mary's Alex Carbonel is WCC Player of the Week

SAN BRUNO, Calif. -- The West Coast Conference has announced its women's basketball Player of the Week award-winner for January 16.

ALEX CARBONEL, SR., G, SAINT MARY'S

Saint Mary's senior guard Alex Carbonel is the WCC Women's Basketball Player of the Week for January 16. Carbonel led the Gaels to two road victories in the WCC last week, including a 66-63 victory at No. 22 Gonzaga last Saturday. She scored a game-high 18 points, including six points in the final 4:43, to help SMC pull away.

Carbonel scored 14 points and added four assists in a 75-71 win at Portland on Thursday night. She is averaging 14.3 points per game in five WCC contests, which is 10th in the conference.
