WCC Announces Players Of The Week

Jan. 26, 2009

WCC Women's Basketball Player of the Week: Katie Batlin, SMC
Saint Mary's freshman guard Katie Batlin scored a career-high 27 points in the Gaels' double-overtime win over San Diego. Going 13-of-23 from the floor, Batlin's 56.5 percent shooting was more than enough to break her previous career-high of 13. She also tallied 11 rebounds, four assists, and one steal on the night. Batlin's last four points that came in the first overtime helped hold off the Toreros and pull the Gaels in the running for second place in the WCC.

Senior John Bryant is now second in the nation's record list of double-doubles with 15.

WCC Men's Basketball Player of the Week: John Bryant, SCU
Santa Clara senior center John Bryant averaged 19 points, 16.5 rebounds, and 3.5 blocks last week. Shooting over 76 percent, Bryant helped the Broncos come back from a six-game losing streak and pull out two straight wins over San Francisco and Houston Baptist. Against San Francisco, Bryant collected his 14th double-double with 18 points and 12 rebounds. He then followed that game with a 20 point, 21 rebound performance against Houston Baptist. Bryant is now second in the nation in double-doubles with 15 this season.
