Feb. 5, 2007

MALIBU, Calif. - Pepperdine freshman forward Teena Wickett was selected as the West Coast Conference (WCC) women's basketball Player of the Week for games of Jan. 9-Feb. 4 announced by the league office Monday morning.

This marks the second time this season and in her career she has earned the conference's top weekly honor. It also marks the third time this season a Pepperdine athlete has earned the accolade. Daphanie Kennedy was picked as co-Player of the Week on November 20, 2006.

In helping lead Pepperdine to a 2-0 record last week, Wickett averaged 8.5 points and 8.5 rebounds per game on .700 shooting from the floor and .750 shooting from the free throw line. The Oakland, Calif. native recorded her team-leading fifth double-double of the season with a 10-point, 11-rebound effort as the Waves handed conference-leading Gonzaga its first loss in league play on Thursday night. Wickett scored seven points with six rebounds in just 16 minutes in a victory over Portland.

Pepperdine opens its final homestand of the season this week when it welcomes the San Francisco Dons and San Diego Toreros to Firestone Fieldhouse. Thursday's game against the Dons is scheduled for a 7 p.m. PT tip, while Saturday's game against San Diego is slated for 2 p.m.
