SPOKANE, Wash. - Gonzaga University women's basketball player Heather Bowman has been named the West Coast Conference Player of the Week as announced by the conference office for the week of Feb. 12. Bowman helped Gonzaga hold on to its lead atop the WCC standings, as the freshman averaged 26.5 points and 12.5 rebounds in wins at Saint Mary's College and Santa Clara University over the weekend. Bowman poured in 25 points and pulled down 10 rebounds in Thursday's win over the Gaels, before collecting her fourth double-double of the season with 28 points and a career-high 15 boards in the win over the Broncos. Bowman shot 19-for-25 (76.0%) from the field and was near perfect from the free throw line, hitting 15-of-16 (93.8%) from the charity stripe on the week.
This is Bowman's first collegiate Player of the Week accolade and the Bulldogs fifth overall of the season. Senior Stephanie Hawk has earned the honor three times this year, while junior Michelle Elliott has earned the distinction once.
The Bulldogs will be back in action this Saturday, Feb. 17 when it plays at the University of Portland; their last regular-season road game. Game time is slated for 2 p.m.
