Women's Basketball Places Two On All-Academic Squad

San Bruno, CA- Saint Mary's senior forward Eghosa Obaiza (Sacramento, CA) and junior guard Lauren Shaughnessy (Bellevue, WA) were named to the West Coast Conference All-Academic Team as announced by the conference office today. The 2007 West Coast Conference Winter All-Academic teams honor some of the league's finest examples of the consummate scholar-athlete.

Shaughnessy sports a 3.75 GPA and is pursuing a degree in Kinesiology. Obaiza maintains a 3.22 GPA in Sociology and Anthropology. Obaiza will graduate in the spring off 2007.

Eghosa Obaiza capped off her senior season with a WCC accolade.


On the field Shaughnessy is one of the premier ball handlers in the league. The Bellevue, WA native leads the conference in assist to turnover ratio and ranks 29th in the nation in assists per game with 5.22.

Obaiza is third in the league with 7.5 boards per game and leads the league on the offensive glass with 3.40 per game. The Sacramento native chips in with 8.4 points per game and a team-high 40 blocks.

Saint Mary's will conclude its regular season this week against Pepperdine and Loyola Marymount. The Gaels will face the Waves on Thursday, February 22 with tip-off slated for 7 p.m. from McKeon Pavilion.
