SAN BRUNO, CA -- Gonzaga nearly swept the West Coast Conference yearly honors after capturing its third straight WCC regular season title and the top seed in the WCC Tournament. Senior Stephanie Hawk was named the conference's Co-Player of the Year along with San Diego junior Amanda Rego, while Kelly Graves shares WCC Coach of the Year honors with San Diego's Cindy Fisher. Bulldog freshman Heather Bowman was tabbed for Newcomer of the Year honors, and Loyola Marymount junior Amanda DeCoud was named the conference's Defensive Player of the year.
Hawk and Rego become the first WCC Co-Players of the Year in conference history. Hawk is the second Zag in the last three years to earn the conference's top honor, following former teammate Shannon Mathews in 2005, and Rego is the first Torero in program history to be named Player of the Year. Hawk is the only league player to currently rank among the top three in the conference in both scoring (14.9 ppg - 3rd) and rebounding (7.9 rpg - 2nd), while Rego paces the circuit in both steals (2.75 spg) and assists (7.64 apg), leading the nation in the latter.
Graves earned Coach of the Year honors for the third time in the last five seasons after guiding Gonzaga to a 21-9 overall mark and a 13-1 record in conference play. Fisher has led San Diego to one of the most successful seasons in program history, as the Toreros posted 20 wins (21-7) for the first time and finished second in the WCC with a 10-4 mark in league play. This season marks just the second time, and the first time since the 1992-93 season, that the WCC has honored Co-Coaches of the Year.
DeCoud is the first Lion to take home Defensive Player of the Year honors since Adrianne Slaughter received the recognition in 2002-03, and Bowman is the first WCC Newcomer of the Year to come from Gonzaga since Juanita Rivera in 1991-92.
San Francisco's Dominique Carter was named to the All-WCC first team for the third straight season.
