DeCoud Wraps Up Regular Season With Weekly Award

Feb. 27, 2007

LOS ANGELES, Calif. - Amanda DeCoud has been named the WCC co-Player of the Week for the final weekend of the regular season. The junior led the Lions to a sweep on the road, helping the team secure the No. 3 seed for this week's West Coast Conference Championships. She averaged 14.0 points, 4.0 rebounds and added nine steals, seven assists and a block over the two games.

Needing two wins on the road, DeCoud was phenomenal, leading the team in scoring at Santa Clara with 16 points, and contributing 12 at Saint Mary's.

More importantly, she was stellar on defense. She had five steals against Santa Clara and four steals against Saint Mary's. She helped limit Chandice Cronk to just 10 points and the entire Santa Clara team to just three three-pointers. Maija Lahde was her defensive assignment on Saturday, and the junior had just four points.

She also directed the team to two comeback wins, dishing out seven assists for the weekend.

She turned things up a notch in the second half against the Broncos. With LMU down by 10 at 8:45, she helped helped start the comeback. Her steal and drive to the basket cut the lead to four points at 7:22, and after SCU answered with a three, she took the team on her shoulders and led them to the win. Her steal and breakaway layup at 4:58 tied the game, 51-51. LMU went up by two points, but SCU tied it again. DeCoud grabbed the offensive rebound off of the next LMU miss at 3:01 and converted both free throws to give LMU the lead for good. She made 3 of 4 free throws in the final 47 seconds to secure the win.

For the week, she averaged 14.0 points, 4.0 rebounds, with nine steals, seven assists and a block. She played 37 minutes in both games.

She shares the award with Gonzaga's Stephanie Hawk. Monday was a big day for DeCoud, as she was also named the conference's Defensive Player of the Year.

DeCoud and the Lions open WCC Tournament action on Thursday by facing a familiar opponent, Santa Clara, at 6:00pm.
