SAN DIEGO, Calif. - Fans can catch the University of San Diego head women's basketball coach Cindy Fisher live Tuesday evening on Mighty XX (KXRS 1090 AM) radio at 9:05 p.m. as she will be talking on the John Kentera Show.
Coach Fisher will be talking about the upcoming Women's National Invitational Tournament first-round game featuring the Toreros and UC Santa Barbara on Thursday evening at 7 p.m. inside the friendly confines of the Jenny Craig Pavilion.
The Toreros have just finished the best turn around in program history, a 12-game improvement from 9-19 in the 2005-06 season to a 21-8 record this season. USD has set a lot of records along the way as they have recorded the first-ever 20-win season in program history, finished second place in the West Coast Conference for the first time in program history and had the best overall start in program history at 6-0 and in conference play at 6-0. These are just a few of the team highlights this season.
UCSB carries an overall record of 18-13 into Thursday's contest after advancing to the Big West Tournament title game for the 11th consecutive year last week. Santa Barbara failed to capture the Big West regular season crown for the first time since 1994-95, finishing second with a 10-4 league mark, two games behind UC Riverside (12-2). The Gauchos entered the Big West Conference Tournament in Anaheim, Calif. as the No. 2 seed and defeated Cal State Fullerton 57-52 in the semifinals Friday, March 9, before losing a 70-67 heartbreaker for the second year in a row to the Highlanders on Saturday, March 10. This marks the Gauchos' 12th consecutive postseason trip and second consecutive WNIT berths.
The USD athletics department is asking Torero fans to come out in full force and support this record-setting Toreros women's basketball team and make Jenny Craig Pavilion a sea of blue by wearing blue Torero gear.
