MALIBU, Calif. -- The Pepperdine women's basketball team earned a postseason trip for the second straight year with Monday night's announcement from the WNIT that the Waves will travel to Oklahoma State for a first-round game Wednesday.
"This is awesome," said an elated head coach Julie Rousseau. "We are so grateful to return to postseason play and we praise God for this opportunity. We'll be ready to go and represent the West Coast Conference."
Game time will be announced by tournament organizers Tuesday afternoon.
Pepperdine enters the WNIT's field of 64 with an overall record of 18-11 and third-place WCC mark of 9-5. The host Cowgirls are 16-14.
The two teams have met twice with OSU winning the first meeting in 1987 in Malibu, Calif., and the Waves taking the most recent matchup in Stillwater in 2002.
Pepperdine has qualified for nine postseason appearances in the last 13 seasons. The Waves made their first-ever NCAA Tournament appearance in 2000 with an at-large bid, then captured the WCC Tournament title and subsequent NCAA appearances in 2002, 2003 and 2006.
In addition to NCAA appearances, the Waves were invited to the WNIT in 1999, 2001, 2004 and 2010. Pepperdine was edged by BYU, 62-58, in the first round of last season's WNIT.
