Gonzaga and San Diego women's basketball still alive in postseason

SAN BRUNO, Calif. -- Two West Coast Conference women's basketball teams are still playing in the postseason, as Gonzaga and San Diego advanced to the Sweet 16 of the NCAA Tournament and WNIT, respectively.

QUICK HITS

  • No. 11 Gonzaga advanced to its third consecutive NCAA Sweet 16 with a 65-54 win over No. 3 Miami on Monday night in Spokane. The Bulldogs defeated No. 6 Rutgers 86-73 in the first round of the NCAA Tournament on Saturday. The Zags will face No. 2 Kentucky on Sunday in Kingston, R.I. at a time to be announced.

  • No. 10 BYU fell 59-55 to No. 7 DePaul on Saturday in the NCAA first round in Chicago, Ill. Sophomore Jennifer Hamson led BYU with 21 points. The Cougars finish the season with a 26-7 record, tying the program record for most wins in a single season.

  • San Diego moved on to the Sweet 16 of the WNIT after a 60-58 win over Cal State Northridge last Friday and a 83-75 victory over Pacific on Sunday. Seniors Morgan Woodrow (27 points) and Dominique Conners (23 points) led the Toreros in the win over UOP.

  • Saint Mary's defeated UNLV 71-63 in the WNIT first round last Thursday. The Gaels then lost 56-41 at Oregon State on Saturday in the WNIT second round. SMC ends its season with a 22-11 record, tying for the second-most wins in program history.
