Women's Basketball Announces Award Winners

SPOKANE, Wash. - Gonzaga University head women's basketball coach Kelly Graves announced his 2006 award winners at the team's annual banquet held last weekend. Senior Ashley Anderson was named the Bulldogs top Defensive Player and team MVP. Senior Katie Prichard was named the team's Most Inspirational Player and freshman Jami Bjorklund was named the team's Most Improved. The Bulldogs finished the season 16-14 winning their second straight West Coast Conference regular-season title.

Anderson carried the team during most of the WCC season as she earned first team All-WCC honors. She averaged 10.8 points and 6 rebounds a game for the season appearing in all 30 games.

Prichard played in several different roles over the course of her senior season appearing in 27 games. She started seven games at point guard during the early portion of the year as the Bulldogs looked for some steady play while changing line-ups 11 times in the first 15 games.

Bjorklund was one of the top freshmen in the WCC earning All-Freshmen honors. She appeared in all 30 games with 13 starts and averaging 7.5 points. She was the Bulldogs top long range shooter hitting 46 percent from 3-point range.
