MALIBU, Calif. - Pepperdine women's basketball head coach Julie Rousseau announced the appointment of Tina Samaniego as the program's third assistant coach. Samaniego is no stranger to Malibu as she walked on to the 1999-2000 Pepperdine squad.
"Tina is a breath of fresh air to our program," said Rousseau who is in her third season at the helm of the Waves' program. "Her intelligence and extraordinary work ethic will only enhance the staff that is already established. After serving as a member of the Stanford women's basketball staff last season, she brings a clear understanding of the commitment needed to be successful at this level. I look forward to her youthful exuberance and believe that she will only improve the dynamics of our program."
Following her season at Pepperdine, Samaniego returned to her hometown of Ventura, Calif., where she served as team captain and led Ventura College to the 2001 California State Championship, earning second team All-Western State Conference honors along the way.
That season would prove to be her last although she never left the game entirely. While completing her degree in Exercise Science, with a minor in Business Administration, at the University of San Francisco, Samaniego served as the team manager for the Don's men's team.
She recently completed work on her Master's Degree in Kinesiology from San Jose State.
