Moraga, CA - Former Saint Mary's women's basketball standout Sheridan Arredondo signed a professional contract with UBBC Herzogenberg of the AWBL in Austria. Arredondo will leave the states on September 10 to continue her career overseas.
"I am really excited for this opportunity to continue my career," Arredondo said. "I'm not ready to hang up my jersey."
Arredondo will be joining a team that has ruled the first division of late. Herzogenberg captured the Austrian Cup the last two seasons and were Austrian AWBL regular season champs as well, the past two years.
The 6-3 center had a career year under head coach Paul Thomas. Arredondo averaged a career-high 9.6 points per game overall and 11.8 points during West Coast Conference play. The Saugus, CA native also pulled down 5.1 boards per contest and was second on the squad with 35 blocks.
"This is a great situation for Sheridan and we wish her the best," Thomas said. "She has the tools to be a great player and I look forward to following her career."
Arredondo tallied a career-high 24 points on 10-of-16 shooting against rival Santa Clara on January 7. The Saugus HS product recorded two double-doubles on the year, with an 18 point, 14 rebound performance against Cal Poly and an 11 point and 10 rebound outburst at USF.
Arredondo is the second Gael to head overseas recently. Former SMC standout Triola Jackson played for Binnenland in Holland in the 2005-06 seasons. Senior Maya Lahde spent her summer playing with the Finland National Team.
