SAN BRUNO, Calif. -- The West Coast Conference announced its 2013-14 women's basketball conference schedule on Wednesday, featuring 10 teams for the first time in league history. The race for the WCC regular season crown will be contested over a 10-week span, and consist of a double round-robin format. Conference play is slated to begin on Saturday, December 28, and will culminate on March 1, 2014.
The 2012-13 season marked the second consecutive season in which the West Coast Conference placed multiple teams in the postseason. WCC champion Gonzaga hosted NCAA Tournament competition in Spokane, while three West Coast Conference teams competed in the WNIT, WCC runner-up San Diego and BYU were joined in the WNIT by Saint Mary's, which advanced to the quarterfinal round.
The 2013-14 West Coast Conference women's basketball schedule gets underway on Saturday, December 28, with eight teams in action. Defending West Coast Conference champ Gonzaga visits Saint Mary's that day, while University of the Pacific plays its first game back in the WCC at home against Portland. Two days later, Bay Area rivals collide when San Francisco plays at Santa Clara.
A rematch of the 2013 WCC Championship game pits San Diego at Gonzaga on this season's third week (Jan. 11), while Loyola Marymount visits Pepperdine that same afternoon in a PCH Cup rivalry showdown.
In February, several key match-ups are on the horizon, including Gonzaga at BYU (Feb. 15) and Saint Mary's at Gonzaga (Feb. 27). The 2013-14 WCC regular season concludes on March 1 with all 10 teams in action, highlighted by San Diego visiting BYU.
The 2014 West Coast Conference Basketball Championships will take place from March 6-11 at the Orleans Arena in Las Vegas.
