USF Hosts Successful George O'Brien Green and Gold Scrimmage

(San Francisco) - USF's Green and Gold Club hosted the 23rd Annual George O'Brien Green and Gold Scrimmage Saturday afternoon at War Memorial Gym, featuring previews of the 2007-08 men's and women's basketball squads.

In the women's game, the Gold squad seized a 36-32 decision as senior center Lisa Olden scored a game-high 12 points on 5-of-6 from the field to go along with a team-high six rebounds. Sophomore guard Katie Mihalco added 11 points, converting on 3-of-4 from 3-point range, while senior guard Dominique Carter chipped in nine points.

Freshman forward Jackie Boka-Timmerberg and junior post Necolia Simmons each scored eight points to lead the Green squad. Junior guard Shay Rollins added seven points.

Sophomore guard Paolo Zamorano hit a 3-pointer as time expired to lift the Green team to a 30-28 victory in the men's scrimmage. Sophomore center Jared Casey scored a team-high eight points with three rebounds, while sophomore forward Hyman Taylor added seven points.

Senior forward Vince Polakovic paced the Gold squad with a game-high 12 points and junior guard Manny Quezada added five points and three assists.

Both teams take on Sonoma State in exhibition action. The women host the Seawolves Thursday, November 1 in a 7:00 PM tip and the men square off against Sonoma State Saturday, November 3 in a 2:00 PM tip-off.
