WHAT'S ON SCHEDULE: The Gaels begin the 2007-08 season when they face Loyola University of New Orleans in an exhibition game on November 3 at 2:00 pm. The afternoon match-up against the Loyola Wolfpack will be followed by a "Meet the Gaels" promotion held in the Soda Center on Saint Mary's Campus.
SCOUTING THE WOLFPACK: Loyola University of New Orleans women's basketball was picked to finish first in their conference (Gulf Coast Athletic Conferene). The Wolfpack is coming off the most successful season in program history, setting records in wins (25), winning percentage (.735), and picked up the team's first conference regular season and tournament championships. Head coach DoBee Plaisance was named the GCAC Coach of the Year.
Two members of the Wolfpack squard were named to the pre-season all-conference team, in senior guard Kiely Schork and sophomore guard/forward Trenese Smith. Schork, a 5-3 senior guard from Burlingame, California, scored 11.21 points per game, attaining a double digit average for the 4th consecutive season. She also led the conference with 96 three pointers and shot 28% from behind the arc. Smith, a 5-8 sophomore guard/forward led the conference in scoring with 17.62 points per game. She also led the conference in three point shooting percentage, cashing 43.7% of her long range attempts.
SAINT MARY'S VERSUS LOYOLA OF NEW ORLEANS: Saturday's game marks the first time the Gaels will face the Wolfpack in program history.
"MEET THE GAELS": Immediately following the game verus Loyola University of New Orleans, Saint Mary's will host their second annual "Meet the Gaels" night. The post game event will take place in the Soda Center on Saint Mary's Campus. A complimentary dinner will be served for all current Red Zone members; non-members will be charged $25.00 at the door. The post game event will allow fans a chance to meet their favorite players in a friendly and inviting atmosphere.
COMING UP NEXT: The Gaels will travel to Waco, TX to partipate in the Basketball Travelers Tip-Off Tournament from November 9-11. Saint Mary's will face Prairie View on the first day of tournament action, November 9, at 5:30 PM CST. The Gaels will then play the host school, Baylor, at 7:30 PM CST on November 10. Finishing up the tournament, Saint Mary's will challenge Howard at 12:00 PM CST on November 11.
