MALIBU, Calif. - Pepperdine junior guard Daphanie Kennedy was selected as the West Coast Conference (WCC) women's basketball co-Player of the Week for games of Nov. 13-19 announced by the league office Monday morning. She was joined by San Diego's Amanda Rego.
A 2006 All-WCC first team selection and tournament Most Valuable Player, Kennedy, earns the weekly honor for the first time in her career.
Kennedy averaged 16.5 points over two games, while shooting 41.2 percent on 14-of-34 shooting from the floor for the weekend. She also hit the game-tying basket with 24 seconds remaining in regulation of Pepperdine's (2-2) 75-73 victory over No. 14/12 Rutgers Friday night. The victory marked the first win over a ranked opponent since Nov. 29, 1997 when the Waves topped No. 5 Florida, 65-51.
This marks the first time a Pepperdine student-athlete has earned the conference's top weekly accolade since Jasmane Clarendon on Feb. 13, 2006.
The Waves host Tennessee Tech Friday in the second game of this weekend's Thanksgiving Tournament. Iowa State and Virginia Tech will also be competing in the two-day tournament. Game times are scheduled for 1:30 p.m. and 3:30 p.m. PT both Friday and Saturday, with Pepperdine playing the latter game both days.
