SAN BRUNO, Calif. - The West Coast Conference is off to a solid start to the 2013-14 season. The WCC owns a record of 21-14 heading into play Thursday. Three teams - BYU, Saint Mary's and San Diego - boast unblemished 3-0 records, while No. 24/25 Gonzaga is 3-1 after advancing to the semifinals of the Preseason WNIT.
Through November 20, WCC teams own a 60% winning percentage vs. non-conference foes, including a 13-3 (81.3%) rate on their home floors. See page 2 for the breakdown.
No. 24/25 Gonzaga marched to the semifinals of the 2013 Preseason WNIT, dropping a hard-fought 82-78 loss at 10/13 Oklahoma.
For the second time in three seasons, the WCC welcomes a new member as Pacific returns to the league for the 2013-14 season. The Tigers were a founding member of the WCC, then the California Basketball Association.
For the first time in program history, Gonzaga earned a preseason national ranking (No. 25).
Five member institutions - Gonzaga (1), Saint Mary's (T-9), BYU (11), Pacific (13), San Diego (20) - cracked the preseason mid-major top-25 poll as released by College Basketball Insiders.
Four WCC members advanced to postseason play in 2012-13. Gonzaga represented the league in the NCAA Tournament, while BYU, Saint Mary's and San Diego competed in the WNIT. Pacific also competed in the WNIT in its final season in the Big West Conference.
