WCC Women's Basketball Teams Prepare for Games During Thanksgiving Holiday

SAN BRUNO, Calif. --WCC women's basketball teams are preparing for games during the Thanksgiving holiday. For more information, visit one of the above links.


  • Santa Clara is off to a 4-1 start, its best since the 2007-2008 season. Senior guard Alyssa Shoji is averaging 4.4 three-point field goals per game, which is tops in the West Coast Conference.

  • Portland senior guard/forward Natalie Day is the WCC Player of the Week for the second consecutive time. Day hit two free-throws with 2.8 seconds left as the Pilots defeated San Diego State 59-58 last Sunday in Honolulu.

  • Saint Mary's won another thriller as the Gaels defeated Pacific 68-67 last Saturday in Stockton, Calif. Redshirt-sophomore Jackie Nared hit a jumper with 2.4 seconds left in the game to put SMC ahead.

  • Through four games, Natalie Day leads the WCC with 20.8 points per game. Loyola Marymount redshirt-junior Alex Cowling is right behind with 19.5 points per contest.

  • Several WCC teams will play in tournaments over theThanksgiving holiday. LMU will host the DoubleTree L.A. Westside Thanksgiving Classic. Pepperdine will head to Albuquerque for the New Mexico Thanksgiving Tournament. Saint Mary's will host the SMC Concord Hilton Tournament and San Francisco will head up north for the Seattle University Thanksgiving Tournament.
